College reaches scholarship fundraising goal!
Klamath Community College can provide up to 80 new scholarships for students with the money from its recently concluded fundraising campaign. The scholarships are for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The college raised $54,552 with the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation matching $50,000 of that amount. The successful campaign included gifts ranging from a $25,000 anonymous donation to smaller contributions from KCC faculty and staff, KCC Board of Education members, and KCC Foundation members.
Preference for the $25,000 gift will go to graduates of Lost River, Henley and Tulelake high schools, particularly those wanting to study agriculture at KCC. Additional preference will be given to those planning to go on to study agriculture at Oregon State University after two years at the college.
A total of $15,100 was donated to create an endowment for the Erin Andrews Scholarship Fund to benefit students in the nursing assistant program.
Other donations, which also were matched by the Miller Foundation, include $3,000 from Winema Electric, $1,000 from Wal-Mart, $1,000 from the city of Klamath Falls, $1,000 from the International Order of Odd Fellows, and $500 from the American Association of University Women.
The Miller Foundation scholarships at KCC may range from $500 to $3,000 per student, based on the judgment of the College's Financial Aid Officer.
